She Set Fire To Your Soul

She was the laughter
ringing in your ears, warming
your chest, sparking you to brilliance
like a lighter’s flame.
When you were moving slow and sluggish,
arms at your sides, head bowed,
she lifted your chin in her hands,
kissed your lips, hot and wild with her energy.

She awoke something within you
at the touch of her hand – static
on your bare skin.

You were timid and careful,
one foot in front of the other, calculated
and slow. Terrified of anything you could not hold
between your palms or make permanent.

But she set fire to your soul
with just one touch,
making all the hesitant pieces of you tremor
under her fingertips.
She was electric,

And in her absence,
you’re still drunk
on the taste of her kiss.

Astrid is a thirty-something madness who likes to write short stories that are, kind of like her, barely there. Her soul is happiest when she is reading, or being around people who lift up her spirits.
